FAQ

Common Questions

Honest answers to the most common concerns.

Is this anti-school?

No. Purpose Over Paper is not against schools or teachers. It is against a system that has drifted toward optimising for credentials instead of genuine development. Many families will continue to use schools. The goal is to ensure the home environment provides what schools structurally cannot: individualised mentorship, deep attention, and a focus on who your child is becoming.

Will my child fall behind?

Behind what? The credential race defines progress by age-normed benchmarks that measure compliance and recall. Purpose Over Paper redefines progress in terms of capacity: can your child think critically, manage their own attention, and work through difficulty? Children who build these skills tend to outperform their peers when it matters most, in adulthood.

What about college?

College remains a valid path for many. This series does not discourage college. It challenges the assumption that everything before college should be organised around getting into college. A child raised with purpose, agency, and capacity will be better prepared for higher education, and for deciding whether it is the right choice for them.

What about socialisation?

Socialisation is important. It is also not something that only happens in a classroom of same-age peers. Children socialise through family, community, sports, mentorships, projects, and unstructured play. The question is not whether your child will interact with others, but whether those interactions build real social skills or just proximity.

Is this political?

No. Purpose Over Paper is deliberately non-partisan. It does not align with any political movement on education. It draws from cognitive science, developmental psychology, and systems thinking. Parents across the political spectrum will find useful frameworks here. The series avoids culture-war framing entirely.

Is this just homeschool culture?

No. While many homeschooling families will find this series valuable, it is not written exclusively for homeschoolers. The principles apply whether your child attends a traditional school, a charter school, an alternative school, or learns primarily at home. The focus is on what you do as a parent or mentor, regardless of the schooling model you use.

What if I cannot homeschool fully?

Most families cannot. That is fine. Purpose Over Paper is not an all-or-nothing proposition. The framework is designed to work alongside whatever schooling arrangement you have. Even small, consistent changes in how you structure the home environment, how you talk about learning, and how you observe your child can produce meaningful results over time.
